If my child feels more comfortable and "safe" by communicating with me by not looking directly at me, then I allow that. The same if he finds that a noise is too loud (even though to you and me it is a perfectly natural sound)<br /><br />When he first started PREk the teacher told me that they do not allow kids to plug their ears when their is a loud noise. I put an immediate stop to that for my son. Plugging his ears is his way of regulating the stimulus that he can't handle. <br /><br />Your son is still so young. If this is his way to regulate, then I think there are other things that would be top on list of priorities.<br /><br />Just my 2 cents. I have read that it can sometimes be related to a vitamin A deficiency and can be treated with cod liver oil.
